This challenge lead developers to team up with LandDesign, who helped navigate the zoning amendments and find some creative workarounds to bring the project to fruition.
The LandDesign team played a key role in helping the developers turn their bold vision into reality by guiding them through the zoning process. They transformed the stormwater retention pond into what’s now Midtown Lake, a stunning community feature surrounded by nature trails and a nearby dog park. Plus, they saw the potential to turn an empty space into Midtown Commons—a vibrant, open-air plaza that’s quickly become the neighborhood's gathering spot. These creative updates didn’t just create much-needed public space; they also solidified Midtown Tampa as a go-to destination for events, gatherings, and everything in between.
Fast forward to today, and Midtown is one of Tampa’s top destinations, buzzing with a vibrant culinary scene, dynamic art, upscale shopping, and plenty of entertainment. Everywhere you look, you'll find eye-catching sculptures, murals, and immersive art pieces from both global artists and local designers. When it comes to food, Midtown has something for every mood—whether you're craving casual bites like boba and coffee, a laid-back sports bar, or a classic burger joint. For those looking to keep it a little healthier, there's the iconic True Food Kitchen. And if you're in the mood for a little extra flair, you can't miss the stunning rooftop restaurant and bar, Sal Y Mar, where the vibes are always on par.
